An update on the subscription problem

Well, thank goodness you are all still showing up in my Reader. I’m slowly going through my blog roll and “unfollowing” and “refollowing” you all. I hope that works. But it does not appear that I am receiving any of the blogs I subscribe to as a digest. GRRRR.

Edited to add: All the trouble started when I converted my gmail account to the new format that includes tabs. Suddenly I stopped receiving all the blogs I “followed” but am still receiving all blogs to which I subscribed via email.

I finally did it

I bought a strobe (with a real live modeling light) and a decent-sized soft box. And of course, I’m practicing.  These are pretty much how they came out of the camera with just minor processing.

As always, Nina makes a semi-willing subject. The nice thing about the strobe is that it recycles quickly, allowing me to make another shot almost immediately. The soft box provides a soft, but well-directed light.

Maya sat still for a few seconds. Thank goodness for the strobe’s quick recycle!

She’s looking a little twitchy in this one.

Issue with my subscriptions

Hmmm. It seems that WordPress has decided to stop emailing all my subscriptions that come via “daily digest.”  Don’t know why, so I may need to unsubscribe and then resubscribe to a number of blogs I follow. So if you see that happening, that’s what’s going on.

Ciao!

Dense smoke

The northern Nevada area is socked in with smoke from the Rim Fire at Yosemite.  See the link below for coverage and a dramatization of the way the smoke is moving across the west, not only from this fire, but others as well.

Wildfire near Yosemite surges, prompts evacuations

This is the view looking south from our front door. Normally we can see the foothills. I can’t even see to the end of the road.

Obviously, this is not good, health-wise. Our throats are raw, our eyes are burning, and we are sneezing and coughing.  I can’t close the windows because we rely on a swamp cooler to cool the house.

Still,  the photographer in me had to take advantage of the diffused light.

I will now return to my sneezing and coughing.

Lightning over Nevada

The last two evenings have seen thunderstorms roll through northern Nevada.  On Tuesday it was too rainy and windy to try to capture anything as I wasn’t about to take my camera and self out into that mess, but yesterday evening saw the worst of the storms a bit to the south of us and after many, many, MANY tries, I finally captured this.
