I suspect the lack of rain may be a problem too. There’s a special conference going on, here in the UK, to discuss why our weather is screwy at the moment – but I thought it always was.
The lighting on your tree is very nice – works well against the mute tones of the background.
We can water with sprinklers as we do our backyard where we actually do have a lawn. But we have wicked wind out here and the grass would be buried in the sand (if the seed even stayed put). Or the rabbits wouldn’t let it grow – SMORGASBORD!! I really meant what I said about the wind and the rabbits.
Nice photo capturing what appears to be a rather lonely environment for humans. Does the tree need regular watering?

Yes. Those posts sticking up out of the ground contain the drip lines for watering.
