Good Luck, Mr. President – UPDATED

It is Inauguration Day in the United States.

For all the silliness of the election season, and regardless of the winner, I like inauguration day and the peaceful transition of power it symbolizes (or in this case, the assent of the people to the continuation of the current administration).  I’ve got a number of friends who are there and I hope they have a great time.

I took these shots of the White House last March.  You can see the lights on in the Oval Office and I wonder if they are on all the time, or only when the President is in residence. I’m pretty sure President Obama was in D.C. at the time, so seeing the lights on was kind of cool.

UPDATED to add: Okay, now I’m feeling rather foolish. I’ve been operating under the misapprehension that the Oval Office is located in the White House. It is not. It is located in the West Wing, a separate building on the White House grounds.

  1. I agree, it is cool, and I like the photos. When I was there Reagan was in office so I skipped the tour. Silly me. I wish I´d have done it.

    • Thanks, Rita. This wasn’t a tour though. I just shot these through the wrought iron fence. When I was in DC back 2005 to do DNC training with Brian, Bush was in and they had all kinds of barriers and orange tape up in front, so we couldn’t get close, It was nice to be able to be “right there.”

  2. Great shots. I loved the TV series West Wing, but I always thought the oval office was where you thought it was, and that the staff worked from the west wing. But I guess he wouldn’t be very safe if everyone passing on the street could see if he was in or not. 🙂

    • If you look very closely at the closest photo, you can see people in the right window on the first floor. I think they may be getting a tour, something I’d love to do!
