Day 213 – Working with hyperfocal distance

I’ve just become familiar with the concept of hyperfocal distance, so I’m experimenting. I didn’t have a full grasp on the concept when I shot these today, though, so I need to keep working on it!  Plus, I found a nifty iPhone app to help me.

  1. There are a couple of apps for the iPhone and iTouch, and equivalent ones for Android.

I seldom take the time to use them (I’m usually juggling the camera, a couple of lenses, a bag, etc).

I tend to use the DoF preview in the camera. Although it’s an approximation, it also gives me a good heads up on the exposure.

. . . and I really like the first photo. But then I am a big fan of focus and huge DoF.

    • I like the first one the best too. It shows distance and the “bridge” is lit properly as well. In the other one the sun is to the left of the bridge and puts too much shadow. The app I downloaded is basically to give range and a better understanding. I use DoF preview on my camera as well, but the dimming that happens when I do doesn’t make it the best option most of the time.

    • Mondrak, I am truly humbled that you wish to honor me this way, but I must decline the nomination. I follow lots of blogs and to try to play favorites with them would be like playing favorites among my children (if I had lots of kids). I do appreciate that you like what I do. Your comments and follows and likes mean so much to me, so please don’t take this the wrong way that I am declining the award.

My biggest reward are your kind words and all the people who follow my blog. I treasure every single one of you!

      • That’s fair enough, Carissa and thank you for letting me know rather than just ignoring it. Your photos that you post are nothing short of amazing and you deserve to be recognised, but I completely understand. 🙂

Keep up your good work, I will continue to look forward to emails saying that you have a new post.
