This was a bit of a challenge and something I’ll keep working on: Shooting a black dog against a black background! I got a second flash (Nissin Mark II Di866) which I am now using as the master to the Canon 430 EX II.
Key light to camera left (Nissin) through white umbrella. Fill light (Canon) to the right of Nina with soft box above and behind her for rim lighting.

Very good shots.
. . . poor dog . . .

She was a good sport, but I’ve got a couple of shots of her looking a little, um, sad.

Beautiful work and lighting. All of my cats are black and I have a heck of a time getting any photos of them. Even if they stood still for half a second, it would be hard.

Fortunately, Nina’s got the “sit-stay” thing down pretty good. Getting a decent expression out of her is entirely a different matter!

I`m not a great doggie photo lover, but these I really enjoyed. You`ve done a great job of catching those big deep eyes.
