Forty Years

As you are aware, I took a brief trip last weekend to Oklahoma.  Waiting at the other end were my two brothers and my mother. Only one brother knew I was coming. I was a surprise for Mom and my younger brother.  Forty years ago, when I was graduating from high school, we had a formal family portrait taken.

In all the intervening years, for some reason, we’ve never all been in the same place at the same time. Until last weekend.

Here’s one I got of my mom while I was setting up the shot and testing the shutter release. I’m just out of camera to the right, so yeah, it’s me she’s looking at.

Making a wish over her birthday cake.

Sunset in Waikiki

Sweetie, Brother and Sister-in-Law and I took some “us” time last night. We sat in a cabana at the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian hotel (the oldest hotel on Waikiki Beach), enjoyed our drinks, talked, laughed, and of course, enjoyed the sunset.

We weren’t the only ones . . .

The Neighborhood

Running errands, clearing out junk and packing boxes doesn’t leave much time for seeing the sights, but here is the view from around the neighborhood.

There is a reason why people want to live here…

Working Vacation

Sweetie and I are in Hawaii right now with his brother and wife to assist his mom in packing up a part of her household items. Her husband is in the last months of his life and we are having to go through things to toss, keep, donate. Good family time, but trying. Still Sweetie and I managed to get to the beach yesterday. Not sure when we’ll be able to get back though.

Windsurfers. Kailua, Hawaii.

Sweetie and the Pups

We did yesterday’s shoot in the backyard, so of course, the dogs had to stick their noses in every once in a while.

They love getting skritched.

This is about as close to a kiss as one will get from Buddy. Somehow he never learned lickey-face, so the most one gets is a wave of his nose in front of your face. (Which is fine with both of us)

Weekly Photo Challenge: Family

Wow, this week’s photo challenge is filled with emotion for me.

This photograph was taken at Brother #3’s home. This is Brother #4 with his son in his lap. It is the day after Dad’s memorial service, and we were all emotionally shot. And yet, in the midst of it all, a tender touch and laughter still found a place.  Family is all.
