In Nevada, we celebrate our statehood by closing down for a day and having a big parade down Carson Street in Carson City. Back in the day, candy was just thrown, willy-nilly, from the walkers and float riders. In recent years, parade participants are not allowed to throw the candy, so everyone has to get up-close and personal. Lots of fun!
I’m glad to see photos of the parade. Looks like fun, but I didn’t know about the change in rules. Wonder why? Maybe someone important got hit with candy.

It’s been that way for awhile. I remember the change when the Lyon Dems were participating in the Fernley 4th of July parade. I think it’s just common parade practice now (in Nevada, at least).
