My submission for this week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: On the Move

Photos from the first men’s race. I have to note that while they called this the “men’s” race, I saw a number of women competing as well. There were several “men’s” races, not any “women’s” races, so I think they just bunched them all together and awarded trophies accordingly? I dunno.
Needless to say, it was a great opportunity to practice panning!
How is it possible that they can chat while going so fast?
Cheering the riders on!
I’m slowly filling the gallery, so if you’d like to see more and/or follow my progress, here is the link.
I’ll be posting a lot of my shots from Sunday’s Tour de Nez over the next few days.
The handcycle race was the first race of the day (after the 5k run) and it was great fun, and inspiring. These guys can fly!
These are just a few. When the gallery is complete, I’ll provide the link.
More photos tomorrow!
I realize that I am a day behind. Late night Friday, full day yesterday. You all understand, I’m sure. Anyway, here is “yesterday’s” post.
Sparks, Nevada has a fun little downtown area called Victorian Square. Many street fairs are held there, including the Best in the West Rib Cook-Off and a weekly Farmer’s Market in the summer. One of the best parts of Victorian Square is an interactive fountain in front of the movie theater. Yesterday I stopped by to snap some of the kids trying to stay cool on a hot Nevada summer day.
It was hotter than the dickens and I could only bear about fifteen minutes in the sun, given that I didn’t have a hat or the freedom to jump in the fountain with the rest of them. Still, I got a lot of shots in (and handed my card out to the moms there), so if you’d like to see them all, just head on over to my SmugMug gallery.
The kids were having a blast and it was hard to narrow it down, but here are just a few of my favorite shots. (Moms – if you want a copy of any of my photos, please contact me via my Facebook page or contact me via email at carissanv at gmail dot com).
More of this cute guy at SmugMug.
Isn’t she adorable?
Even the pups were cooling off.
This is probably my favorite shot. I caught him at just the right moment.
Seriously, check out the gallery at SmugMug.
I just played with my camera today, mostly shooting in the backyard.
Here’s a great one I got of Nina stalking the wild lizards in the backyard. They like to hang out in the lilac bushes and Nina walks her patrol hoping one will slip out.
Whee!!!
After supper I played with second-curtain sync on my flash. Nina again.
Joanna has inspired me to play with water. This is a travel mug turned upside down in the sink. I let the water run over it and shot it at ISO 100 f/5.6 at 1/200s using flash. In this particular shot, the water was streaming at the back of the cup forcing a small wall of water to spray of from the rim. This was quite fun and as with all experiments, I got a bit of an education. I’ll return to this topic again. Thanks Joanna!
