Day 315 – Me, the cats, and a stool

While cleaning out Sweetie’s office today I came upon a brand new canvas drop cloth.  I thought it might make a good backdrop, so I pinned it to the wall, grabbed the stool and set up some lights.

Maya was quite cooperative.

My turn!

Jezebel would not sit on the stool, so I got down on the floor with her.

One last one of me.

Day 303 – Casting a long shadow

I’m sick, but I still put in a full day at work. My camera never made it out my car, let alone out of the camera bag. I snapped this with my iPhone using the Hipstamatic app as I was heading out to my car after work.

Day 300 (!!!) – Morning Coffee

Wow! Day 300!  Just 66 days to go.

About today’s shot. Maralee finally convinced me to try out the NIK software (Color Efex Pro 4) and this is my first experiment with it.  I wanted a shot with window light, so I set up a stool by the front door and started shooting.  This was shot with my 85mm at 200 ISO,  f/3.5, 1/500.  Took it into NIK and utilized the Dynamic Skin Softener filter.  The difference between the before and after shots is subtle, but I like how it gently smoothed my skin tone without making me look fake.

Day 295 – What I did before breakfast

It’s a sickness. I know.  I was going for a more dramatic feel today.

More at this gallery.

I love this one the best.  Me and Jezebel.  Just the key light at camera left at 45 degree angle.

Profile. Key light to camera left, hair light to camera right and slightly behind me.

This is looks like a “Citibank commercial” shot.

I’d moved the key light forward for the next two and added my SpeedLite flash to bounce light off the ceiling to give my hair a bit more definition.

More fill-light on this one.

Day 277.5 – Just for fun

I’m practicing a lighting technique and Nina was nosing around underfoot. She wanted up in my lap. One thing led to another . . .

Trying to get my face properly lit while Nina scopes out the live view on my laptop..

She is quite the wiggler.

Me checking out the laptop. Nina squirming some more.

Me, trying to avoid “the tongue.”

She got me!

Smooch!

I love this little dog so much!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Mine (and Day 276)

This week’s photo challenge is “Mine.” There isn’t much I consider mine. Not really.

I have possessions, but all of them can be swept away at any time.

The bank still owns this.

There are fleeting moments I wish were “mine.”

We have creatures who share our lives . . . but are they mine?

The way she orders me around, there is no way she’s “mine.”

This one lets me share “her” bed.

She turned me into a middle-aged woman with a little dog, but Miss “You have to wrestle me to the ground to clip my nails” is not mine.

My loyal boy is not “mine” either.

Fruit of my womb, and I’ll love her until the end of time,  but definitely not “mine.”

Love of my Life. We said, “I do,” but we don’t own each other. We share our lives.

There is just one thing that is really and truly mine.

Me.

Day 274 – Studio Lighting

I spent most of the day finishing up my Reno Air Races photo gallery (I will post more tomorrow).  I also spent a little time practicing basic studio lighting. While I was at it, I tried out a pose I read about at Digital Photography School.

If the Reno Air Races ever comes calling, at least I’ve got a decent head shot.

Set up: Key light to camera left at a 45 degree angle and above my head. Fill light to camera right at same 45 degree angle at 1/3 intensity. Nothing fancy.
