Oh my goodness! I get to sleep in tomorrow!

Day 264 – Work!
Day 236 – Morning Sun and Afternoon Portrait
I usually shoot midday or late afternoon during my work week, but this morning I looked out my office window and saw some awesome morning light. I grabbed my camera and headed out for about five minutes. I love the golden glow.
And late this afternoon I did a little experiment with myself. I’d read this article, The Ultimate Guide to Zone Focusing for Candid Street Photography, at Digital Photography School and wanted to play with it a bit. These were shot at 1600 ISO, f/8, 1/30s. To start, I focused the camera on a spot about five feet away. I then adjusted my camera according to the technique in the article, balanced the camera on my printer and set the timer to release the shutter. Voila! I was in the focal plane!
Weekly Photo Challenge: Today
Day 123 – It started with pancakes
We had a pancake breakfast today at work to kick off our social responsibility program and to raise funds for the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation. We raised a nice chunk of change, had a good time, and the pancakes were terrific.
Day 122 – Crazy Day
It didn’t start out that way. In fact, I was actually able to get away at lunch which allowed me to take this lovely photo.
BUT.
Then I found out that a corporate visitor would be arriving late in the afternoon rather than tomorrow morning AND wanted me to schedule meetings for him.
I’m the executive assistant so I needed to be there, but I was also supposed to leave for class at the same time Big Guy was scheduled to show up. Something had to give.
Quick email to Jeff letting him know that I would not be able to make class which bummed me out because I was hoping to get some feedback on my prints. Gracious man that he is, Jeff offered to take a look at my prints tomorrow. So at 9am I’ll slip away to his studio which is literally right around the corner from where I work (after arriving at work early to make sure Big Guy is all settled in).
I left work around 5:15 and took a different route home trying to miss all the spring/summer road construction.
I missed the construction, but not the head-on collision traffic jam on the alternate route.
I arrived home after 7pm.
Day 117 – My Reality
My current reality is stress. My final project is weighing heavily on me. Time is short and I have to have all my prints done by next Thursday when final critiques begin. In the meantime, I’m sorting and making decisions about what I want to go into the collection. I worry that I’ve not met the demands of the class, but also proud of what I’ve done. I want to tell the story more than worrying about lighting, but it is a lighting class and my grade will reflect how I was able to incorporate what I learned into my final project. Given the subject matter, the location shoot, the sensitive nature of it all, that wasn’t easy. So we’ll see. At this point I just want it to be over. It feels a bit like being nine months pregnant. I’ve enjoyed the experience, but I’m tired.
And then there is work. We’ve got important clients in today, with high level execs from their company and ours, and as the site’s executive assistant it falls to me to take care of the logistics (in addition to all my other duties – the plate is never empty). That will be over at 2pm. Then I leave at 3 for class. The schedule says “lab time” for printing, but I’ve seen these things go awry before. And the fact of the matter is there are more students than there are printers and trying to jockey for space is a pain in the ass. I personally prefer to come in on my own time to print. My goal tonight is to get a test strip done. That’s it. If I get more: gravy.
I hardly have time to think of anything else. I am neglecting my family right now. Ugh. Again, it will be over in a week and I can heave a sigh of relief.
Anyway, today’s Dilbert desk calendar page seemed especially fitting. Taken with my 50mm (1/60s at f/1.8).
Gotta go.
Day 95 – More 50mm: Around the office
I can’t resist playing with my new toy. On my afternoon break I got a quick picture of our receptionist, Susan. She’s awesome.
After shooting Susan, I took a walk outside. You may recognize these little dried flowers from Day 46. I love the rim-light created by the afternoon sun.
