Ah very good. Yes if we could only highlight in areas it would be nice but the best way to do this is to take the photo from the direction the sun is shining from. Sun behind you
That being said, shooting with the sun/light to one’s back is not always the best option. Photographers make choices all the time. I have seen hundreds of images that are backlit by the sun.

I actually darkened the crowd a bit to highlight Antonio. May have been a bit too much, but my processing intention was to highlight his face.
