According to our neighbor, the previous owner of our house planted bulbs all over the place. As spring nears, the bulbs are starting to come up and yesterday we got our first sign of color. It’s going to be fun to watch as all the different bulbs bloom! It’s like having a mystery garden.
Edit: Thank you to Mitch for the correction. Duly updated!

No problem.
I know these are grape hyacinths: http://exploratorius.us/2014/02/18/grape-hyacinth/
And I know these are Virginia bluebells: http://exploratorius.us/2014/02/13/soon/
And I know there can be regional differences. 🙂

My mistake came from googling “bluebells.” A photo just like mine showed up in Google images so I thought I had guessed correctly. Thanks for setting me straight. I appreciate it.

Although, in the Wikipedia entry it does say this: Other common names are baby’s breath[1] and bluebell,[2] although these are also used for other plants, . . .

I looked at the article and was surprised by the baby’s breath reference, as it’s completely different from what I know in the flower shops as baby’s breath (the delicate white sprays that are usually paired with roses and a sprig of fern). And the only bluebells I’m familiar with are Virginia bluebells and Texas bluebells, both of which are not related to these.
Dunno. I’d call in a plant expert. 🙂

I’m not even worried about it. To paraphrase Star Trek, “Dammit, Jim! I’m a photographer, not a horticulturist!” 😉
