In case you couldn’t tell, I went to the cardiologist today for my quarterly service check. Looks like I’ve got at least two more years of battery life left in my pacemaker. I wish it was more, but it’s been getting a pretty good workout, so probably not. Maybe by then they’ll have a pacemaker with a longer lifespan.

So what happens in 2 years – do you have to get a new pacemaker or do they replace the batteries? Maybe with all the new technology out there, they will have something better and that lasts longer.

I get a new pacemaker. The leads stay put but they just remove the old pacemaker and attach a new one to the existing leads. Thank goodness I won’t have to go through that whole rigmarole about keeping my arm down for six weeks again!

And yeah, that’s pretty much the push amongst the device makers…pushing out the battery life to ten+ years. Mine was supposed to be 5-7, but I most likely will just get to five.

I like the mended heart – kind of like mine, too! I have a pacemaker as well, since 2009. Hoping mine will last the predicted 8 or so years! All the best.

They told me 5-7 years on mine. Doesn’t look like I’m going to make it to 7. My tech is pretty sure I’m not going to make the 7 year mark. More likely 5. What kind do you have? Mine is a Boston Scientific Altrua 60 S603 with Medtronic leads. One of these days I’ve got to get a copy of my x-ray!
