Tonight in class we learned how to use our flashes with ambient light, second curtain sync to create motion blur, and experimented with using more than one strobe exposure in a shot. Lots of fun!

I’ve played around with double exposures, but was never happy with the results. It looks like they work a bit better using the flash.

There is definitely an art to it. We had lots of misses before we worked out a way to get that final shot right!

I haven’t figured out how to do a double exposure with my digital camera. I used to be able to do it with film. I’ll have to give it a try.

The double exposure required two pops of the flash on a 2 second exposure. In this case, I provided the first flash and my classmate provided the second.
I can’t do this with my flash connected to my hot shoe, but if I hold the flash while it is not connected to the hot shoe and pop it twice while the exposure is open, I can get the same effect.
