Two hawks have built a nest in a tree right on a busy street (McCarran) in Reno. I discovered this on my way home tonight so I pulled over to snap some photos. I’ll post more tomorrow after I’ve had a chance to really go through them, but for now, here’s the one I like the best. I wish it was in better focus.

They are hard to focus on.The first year I started shooting them my success rate was about 10-15%. I still scrap many shots.
I usually use fast shutter speeds and burst shooting to improve the odds of sharp pictures, and I really concentrate on panning the camera right along with them.

I was using a pretty fast shutter speed and tried panning. I’ll keep working at it if I get more opportunities. Now that I know where they are nesting I’ll keep trying.

Great shot. It’s so hard to capture a bird in flight. I love all the detail on his wings (or her wings).
