Day 243 – Dappled

I took a walk late this afternoon around the grounds and I was fascinated by the dapple of sun and shadow on the pine cones strewn across the ground.

Day 177 – Walk-about color and a little street photography

Surprisingly, I got a decent amount of photography in today. I was reasonably productive in the short amount of time I was able to shoot. Other than grabbing my camera bag when I left for work this morning, I didn’t even think about my camera until nearly 4pm.

I took a late afternoon walk around and outside our grounds.

Instead of my usual left-turn, I took a right and walked past the side of our building that faces the employee parking lot.

I headed down the walk and paused to snap this rusted rebar.

This pine cone looked lovely with the afternoon sun illuminating it.

Across the street, these meters caught my eye. Black and white seemed the right treatment for them.

On the way home I got in a little “street” photography.

More.

A third shot.

On the road home (one hand on the wheel, one hand to press the shutter).

Pulling in to the driveway I was happy to see that our yellow dahlia has started to bloom.

Day 46 – A bit of snow!

Well, more than a bit, but not a dumping. The morning commute was a bit of a bear, but we need the snow (and lots more, frankly).  It was  a busy, busy morning and I didn’t get to go outside until the sun was high in the sky and the melt had begun in earnest, but I managed to get a few good shots.  I’m torn between the two of these. I love the pine, but I also really like the second with its textures and delicate buds peeking out of the snow. I’m also very happy with the sharpness of both. Click on photos for larger resolution and you’ll see what I mean. The second one’s flowers have exquisite texture. Exposing for snow can be tricky, and I’m not quite satisfied with that aspect of my shots.  #2 seems a little warm, but neither do I want the snow to be too blue.

I’m posting early because after work I’m headed over to the UNR lighting studio to work on our third project with a couple of my classmates.
