Black on Black

This was a bit of a challenge and something I’ll keep working on:  Shooting a black dog against a black background! I got a second flash (Nissin Mark II Di866) which I am now using as the master to the Canon 430 EX II.

Key light to camera left (Nissin) through white umbrella. Fill light (Canon) to the right of Nina with soft box above and behind her for rim lighting.

On Frozen Pond

I stopped by duck pond today.  We’ve had sub-freezing temps for several weeks, with very little respite, and the pond is mostly frozen over.

Freezing fog made for some pretty pogonip.

Evil Little Thing

T-shirt sold to help provide scholarship funds for Jessica Ahlquist, the sixteen-year-old Rhode Island high school student who won her lawsuit to have the prayer banner removed from her public high school gym, and who had to endure the wrath of her community for standing up for the separation of Church and State. Democratic State Representative, Peter Palumbo, called her “an evil little thing” during a radio interview.

She is a personal hero of mine.

The fellow to the right is my friend Jerry, a military veteran.  I snapped this shot of him last October telling Jessica that she was the bravest person he’d ever met.
