Day 183 – B&W or Color?

Same shots, different treatment.  I took all of these this morning about 8:30.

This?

Or this?

This?

Or this?

Personally, I prefer the black and white landscape photo.  I like where it takes my eye. On the other hand, I find myself going back and forth over the withered branch shot. I’m leaning to the black and white, but . . .

Day 182 – Great Basin Whiptail

I spied this creature out in the undeveloped portion of our 5 acre lot.  He was about six inches long, though he should have been longer. You can see that his tail is growing back, so it isn’t as long as it can be (up to two body lengths, according to this site).

Day 180 – Squeaky

The same day I bought the catnip toy I also bought another toy that I  thought  would be a sure-fire winner with the cats. It’s a lightweight ball with a mouse in it.  The mouse squeaks when the ball is shaken or bounced along the floor. I thought the cats would dig it. Eh, not so much.

Nina, on the other hand, can’t get enough of it.

Day 178 – View from a ladder

This ladder is leaning against our house so I climbed it and got a higher view of the grape-vine than I usually do. Then I looked down and there was Buddy hanging out on the walk.

Lilacs in the yard.

Day 175 – Green

Apples, that is. Shot in the backyard this morning using a technique I learned in lighting class.

I’m off to a baby shower. Catch you all later.

Day 159 – Out Front

Post cap on our sign at the foot of our driveway.  I love what the weather and the elements have done to it.

This Desert Spiny Lizard lives under our front stairs. I think he may be a relative of a much older guy that’s been around since we moved in eleven years ago.

Day 152 – The Huntress

Nina was bound and determined to get whatever lizard or small desert creature had escaped into this roll of chicken wire.

She tried dragging it around and digging under it.

But . . .  no luck.

Day 151 – Last shots

Nothing I shot today was worth posting and I missed working with my lights, so when I got home tonight I set up one soft box and had some fun. There wasn’t a lot to choose from, but I found an onion and a partial head of garlic.

With the soft box alone – just to camera right.

I used my reflector to get rid of some of the back shadow. This next shot is the same set up but I used a gold reflector to put some fill light behind and along the top of the onion and garlic. I especially like the warmth it gives the onion.

This next one is with a white reflector to provide back-fill.  Not as warm as the photo above.

Then I brought in a plate . . .  light in same spot (camera right) with fill provided by white reflector.

I finally got tired of produce and shot this fan my wonderful mother-in-law got for me on one of her many trips abroad.
