Day 125 – Quickie

I didn’t realize my Friday was going to turn out so full but I had no opportunity to shoot “for myself” until late this evening.    I actually did quite a bit of photography today, but it was for work. I was asked to shoot our site, inside and out. Here’s just one “non-identifying” shot.

The shoot went late and I left work about 6pm, the time I was supposed to be meeting Sweetie and our friends for dinner in Fernley (40 minutes away!).  Dinner, enjoyable as it was, ran long and I just didn’t get much of a chance to shoot.    By the time I got my camera out again, it was very late.

Light a Structure at Dusk – Assignment Re-Do

Our 10th assignment for our lighting class was to photograph a building at dusk with multiple flashes, taking care to show the texture and dimensions of the building. Once we’ve gone through critique night, we have the opportunity to re-shoot the assignment, if we wish.

My original shot. Really, I only was able to get off two flashes before the timer on the camera clicked off. Further, it was freezing when we were out shooting and I thought I’d done okay.   The sun had been down for at least a half hour, but the clear sky stayed brighter than I would have liked. Exposure time: 20 seconds.

My instructor said he would have liked to see more detail on the right and in the area to far left, so I went out last night to re-shoot.  Here is the result.  The sky was overcast,  I was dealing with a street lamp to camera left and I used a longer exposure time (about 45 seconds). In this shot I got six flashes off.

Hope he likes this one better.

Day 89 – Reflection

What is reflection and what is “real?”  Taken around 7:00 this evening at Lawlor Events Center at the University of Nevada, Reno.  I shot this looking into Lawlor, with the parking structure, stairs and just a tiny bit of Mackay Stadium reflected in Lawlor’s glass doors.  Where does the interior end and the reflection begin?

And a bonus shot.  Before I shot Lawlor, I had been shooting the Joe Crowley Student Union building and captured the photo below. Funny coincidence, the woman and small boy walking toward me happened to be a co-worker and her son, though I didn’t know it at the time I snapped the photo. It wasn’t until she said, “Hey there photography lady!” that I realized what had happened.
