Take Three

I’m finally going through my photos I took in Washington, DC last spring. Nik Color Efex Pro has some pre-loaded recipes and I’ve also created some of my own, so  I took this shot I took of the Smithsonian Castle and gave it a couple of different treatments. (Click on images for larger version)

“Soft Landscape”

Vintage (my recipe) and Detail Extractor:

This last one uses the Warm Sunset recipe and Extreme Detail Extractor filter. I really like this one. It looks more like painting than a photograph.

Day 342 – At the playground

I was scoping out a local park where I have plans to do a photo shoot on Sunday.  The curves and shapes of the playground caught my eye.

Day 194 – Arches and Shadow

I snapped this one early this morning, before the busy of the day took over. It’s nearly 11 as I post this and we are catching our breath before heading out for one last event that will keep us out until about 2 in the morning. Luckily, we we able to get an hour-long nap in late this afternoon.

Day 179 – Facade

Today was one of those crazy-busy days. I spent most of the day in a training class, got caught up on email and then this evening I led our local freethinkers meeting. This is the roof above the Mexican restaurant where we met.

Day 177 – Walk-about color and a little street photography

Surprisingly, I got a decent amount of photography in today. I was reasonably productive in the short amount of time I was able to shoot. Other than grabbing my camera bag when I left for work this morning, I didn’t even think about my camera until nearly 4pm.

I took a late afternoon walk around and outside our grounds.

Instead of my usual left-turn, I took a right and walked past the side of our building that faces the employee parking lot.

I headed down the walk and paused to snap this rusted rebar.

This pine cone looked lovely with the afternoon sun illuminating it.

Across the street, these meters caught my eye. Black and white seemed the right treatment for them.

On the way home I got in a little “street” photography.

More.

A third shot.

On the road home (one hand on the wheel, one hand to press the shutter).

Pulling in to the driveway I was happy to see that our yellow dahlia has started to bloom.

Day 137 – Neighbors

Super busy day. I woke up, grabbed some coffee, finished uploading the Fun Fly photos, was chained to my desk all day, came home to finish up Cindy’s photos so I could get them to her,  then ran a quick vacuum around the house, and THEN I could pick up my camera. I headed outside with my tripod and tried to capture the dusky horizon, and then turned east to see illuminated homes. It’s quite unusual to see all of them lit at the same time, so I gave it a go.  A bit noisy, due to the long exposure, but I kind of like it.
