Day 8 – Sunrise

I took this shot about three times adjusting the f-stop and shutter speed each time. I liked this one the best as it caught the foreground nicely and still kept most of the detail of the sunrise.

After the sun was fully above the horizon I shot a bit more trying to catch some interesting color and shadow that quickly washes away as the sun rises in the sky.

Day 7

I played with light today. I grabbed some sherry glasses out of the hutch and placed them on a table in the living room. I played with placement, focal length, aperture, shutter speed and on and on. I finally settled on this one.

Nina danced around a lot, but she finally gave up and fell asleep in the sun streaming through the storm door.

Day 6

We’ve got the company CEO coming in on Monday. Me? I’m the cruise director (executive assistant), so yeah, I was stuck. I dashed out for a grilled cheese sandwich and an iced tea and it was back to my office. I cannot wait for tomorrow to have a whole day to myself.

Day 5

It is that cold and brittle time of year. The landscape is barren and yellow. Needing to clear my head, I grabbed my camera and escaped my desk for about a half hour. Aside from the pine trees, there is very little green to be seen. Usually we get some snow to break up the monotony of the landscape but this winter has been as dry as a bone. Still I was able to snap a few interesting pictures today, and this dried flower caught my eye. It is beautiful in its own way.

Day 4

I didn’t get out of the office until about 4:20. This jet was making the big leap out of the bowl that is the Truckee Meadows and I love the daytime moon.

The weather has been warm, so I’ve got to get out during the day tomorrow.

Day 3

Although I spent most of my day chained to my desk, I had to run out to the bank in the afternoon and on the way back in from the parking lot I snapped some trees, a vacant bird nest, and the fire hydrant on our property. Ours is a massive complex, and we’d need a lot of water should the unthinkable happen.

Day 2

Two again today, because it’s a non-work day. Besides, I couldn’t let the sunrise go to waste. (Don’t expect this every day.)

And later in the day I wanted to experiment with turning off the automatic stabilizer so I set about shooting the coat rack and kept moving in closer and closer until I got here.

I was pretty happy with the exposure and clarity of both shots which required only minimal adjustments in Photoshop.

Day 1

Here you go. Two for the price of one. I couldn’t decide.

You might as well get to know the animals early on. This is Buddy, our German Shepherd-Rottweiler mix (age: 8). When shooting animals or people, I always try to focus on their eyes.
