Sweetie and I will be in D.C. next week Tuesday (night) through Sunday afternoon and need some advice on good places to eat. Reasonable prices and reasonably close to the Metro. Vegetarian friendly (for me) is a plus. We want to eat at local establishments – no chains.
Then we head to New York City on Sunday night and will be there three days. I’ve already gotten reservations for Monday night, but any recommendations for good places for breakfast / lunch / dinner would be welcome. We are staying in Tribeca, if that helps, but will be seeing the usual sights roughly based on Days 1, 2 and 3 of this plan.
Thanking you in advance!
There are a number of good restaurants in Chinatown, directly near the Gallery Place / Chinatown metro stop. There’s Legal Seafood and any number of Chinese restaurants. Also, La Tasca, which is a Spanish tapas restaurant. You might like the atmosphere in Busboys and Poets, which is a few blocks away on 4th and K streets. For veggie places, this website has a decent listing: http://www.vegdc.com/restaurants.php

I checked out Bus Boys and Poets and they look fantastic. Do you have a preference as to location? 14th and V? 5th and K? Both are on the Yellow and Green lines, so easy enough (and I’m somewhat familiar with the area as I took the Green line to Shaw/Howard U last spring when staying at my friend’s place).

I like the 14th and V location better. The other is more touristy, but the 14th and V has more of its original feel. Plus it puts you on the U Street corridor and you can probably find other places that interest you there.

Thanks. From what I read of the two locations I was leaning toward 14th and V.

My absolutely favorite NYC restaurant is Trattoria dell’Arte across from Carnegie Hall. They prepared a great vegan food for me. In Tribeca I like Roc in Duane Street. Here you’ll find vegan and vegetarian or veggie friendly restaurants: http://wtfveganfood.com or http://www.happycow.net
