Gone Fishing

I participated in my first local photographers’ group shoot today at Crystal Peak Park in Verdi (about four miles from the California-Nevada border west of Reno).

I wasn’t very lucky with capturing any wildlife, but there were plenty of bipedal creatures to photograph.

Magazine Cover!

I was contacted by the editor of el escéptico a few months back requesting permission to use the photo I took of James Randi at The Amaz!ng Meeting 2012. I agreed, with the standard attribution caveats and a promise I would be sent a copy of the magazine when it was published. And then, honestly, I forgot about it. Going through my mail yesterday I saw a plastic-wrapped Spanish language magazine amidst the junk mail and other periodicals I receive. At first I thought I’d received someone else’s mail. It took me a moment or two to realize what I was seeing!  What a shock to see that my photos had not been merely illustrations to an article within the publication, but had been used for the cover.

Classmates

Last Wednesday night was the last night of our three-session portraiture class. After critiquing our fluorescent lighting homework, we turned to playing in the studio. Previously, we’d asked Jeff to give us some tips on lighting, how to work with different facial structures, etc.  We did some work with fluorescent, direct, diffused, and reflected lighting.

Here are some of my shots taken that night. I’m sorry that it looks like the class was mostly men. Our class actually had five men and four women. I was holding reflector cards when one of the other women was being shot. Others took my photo but I have none of those. Female #4 didn’t get a chance to be photographed, and only one of us photographed male #5.
