Day 223 – One last look around

I spent most of the day at the hospital waiting for a particular surgeon to show up. At four o’clock we still hadn’t seen the whites of his eyes. Since Mom came a few hours after I did, and Ta-Shi needed to be fed, I left and headed home. Fortunately, the hospital is about five minutes from the house and I arrived in no time at all. I fed the dog, grabbed my camera, slapped on my 50mm lens, and did one last shoot around the patio.

I fly home tomorrow morning.

Day 222 – More waiting

I actually took this photo yesterday. Sorry. I spent the whole day at the hospital. Mom has a number of wind chimes hanging around the patio. I like the texture and the color of this bell.

One more day here, I think. Still, I think I’ll be back again next week. Major surgery is likely in the works. This is so hard.

Day 219 – Ta-Shi

I shot this today before spending the day on the phone with doctors, before spending the day at the skilled nursing center, before arranging for Dad to get transported to the ER,  before waiting in the ER, before waiting for another doctor to admit Dad to the hospital, and before finally going home to dinner and before fighting with my brother about health care in the U.S.

My dad is fortunate. He has good coverage. We may be frustrated by the requirements and phone calls and authorizations, but at the end of the day, the family doesn’t have to worry about losing everything because of his medical bills. What is wrong with wanting that for everyone who lives in my country?

This is not the way I wanted to end the day.

Day 218 – In My Room

Long day. I’m ready for bed but it looks like I’ve got one more phone call to take care of before I can sleep. I did a bit of shooting earlier this evening but nothing worth posting. Maybe this one isn’t either, but I’ll let you be the judge. I am in the room that once held bunk beds but is now the guest room in my parents’ home. I sleep here every time I visit.

Because of the rack that hangs over it, the bedroom door does not close easily and I expect Ta-Shi will join me sometime during the night.

I think there is a mosquito in the room.

Day 217 – Railroad Lantern

Sweetie inherited two railroad lanterns from his grandfather. This one is an Adams & Westlake Illinois Central Railroad lantern and is a hundred years old.  I tried different lighting and backgrounds.

On another note, I’ll be leaving tomorrow around noon to go to L.A. Dad isn’t doing well, and Mom is at the end of her tether, as you can imagine.
