Day 67 – Big Fat Full Moon

Heading east tonight on I-80 the full moon hanging over the foothills took my breath away.

    Did you howl? I would have mooned it right back.

    As someone who shoots moon every change they get, I have to say you got it on a pretty good night. Decent detail, and it does not look like there is much in the way of atmospheric artifacts (shimmering, haze, etc). And it’s always nice to get the horizon in there to give it contrast and a bit of accent.

    I assume this was rising? It would have been nice to catch it coming up from behind the hills . . . As much as I am on the lookout for moonrise and moonset, I almost always miss it.

    • Yes, rising. I was heading home from work. It’s hard to catch it this low in the sky. I pulled over as soon as I was able. Fortunately there was a scenic lookout just at the right spot. I’m not usually this lucky. Normally, by the time I get to a spot where I can pull over, the moon has risen too high in the sky. Straight up luck and a clear sky tonight!

  5. Great shot Carissa, I also shoot the full moon … its reflection in the water, but it was almost too perfect…you couldn’t even see it was a reflection in the water any more, so I decided not to post, ’cause it should kind of undermine my project 😉 I love your shots… beautiful with the hills…
