A bit about me

Self-Portrait 03-26-2017

Photography is my addiction.  I’ve been taking pictures all my life, but it wasn’t until September 2011 that I began to understand what it means to make a photograph.  Photographs are our ties to the past and our link to the future, which is why I would rather shoot people than just about any other subject, with our furry companions running a close second.  Photography is, above all, a connection between photographer and subject. My number one goal is to capture the spirit of the moment and to let your spark shine through. When there is connection, there is magic.  

I love dark, rich coffee, and dark, rich chocolate. I love the smell of the air after a rain, and the feel of salt on my skin after a swim in the ocean. I live in northern Nevada with my husband, two dogs and two cats.

    • TSC – I work full time too and I understand not being able to find the time to get out and shoot. There is only so much I can shoot on my work grounds! To add more pressure, tonight I start the lighting class at UNR. I suspect some of my assignments will make it into my 365 project. My understanding is that this particular instructor is a bit of a task master, so it looks like I’ll have my work cut out for me! Thanks for subscribing!

  4. I’ve thought of splitting my blog up . . . I just could not pull the trigger. I think in part it’s wanting for people to know me (like me or hate me) in total. Just like in real life, see a side of me one moment, and another, perhaps not as likable side, the next.

    I do agree posts tend to get lost in the clutter. But then, anything more than a month old is not likely to be seen much anyway.

    As for 365, I’m doing a modified thing . . . a post a day (primarily because I did not bother looking up the meaning of 365, and assumed it related to posting in general).

    Don’t know if I’ll keep it up; it’s a lot of work to do the kinds of posts I do because they tend to be long rather than short.

    As for your photos; very nice shots, and appealing compositions. You are more diverse than I tend to be, but then you have a different focus than I do.

    Off to your other blog . . . it seems we are of like mind on some things.

  5. Hey I just came across your blog from reading through a comment on DPS, great blog and photos. I am currently doing a project not 365 project but something called Project 26 which is essentially going for 26 weeks and each week I submit an image corresponding to the letter of the alphabet.

    So that week 1, I can submit any image of an object or something starting with letter A or even a photo of something that looks like the letter A and so on. Either way projects are fun and keeps us on our toes. I will continue to follow your blog, great stuff keep it up.

  8. I bought the Canon T2i with the EF-S 18-55 kit lens and am always complaining about it. The lens, that is. Maybe I should stop complaining. The shots I’ve seen so far are great! Sidelight: I live in Southern Nevada with my soon-to-be wife (May 12 will be THE date), commute only about 30 miles to my job.

  18. hmm…now let me see…lover of photography, chocolate, dogs, and most importantly, freethinker and hater of ass-kissers….that makes two of us…..great minds (!) think alike….what a wonderful place to live, too….5 acres and hardly anybody there….superb! but making a living must be a drag…all that travel etc…anyways, excellent blog!

    • Actually, we’ll be moving away from here and back to the Reno area where there are people. For some people the isolation is heaven. Not so for me. I’ve given it the old college try (12 years), and I just can’t take the commute and the isolation any longer. We’re putting the house on the market and crossing our fingers. But all the rest still holds. Thanks for stopping by!

  29. soy colombiana, y me da pena decirte que me encantan las manzanas aqui donde vivo en Barranquilla vale cada una 1.300 pesos , tus fotos son bonitas pero me llamó la tención la cantidad de manzanas que se pierden del árbol que caen suelo y terminan pudriéndose, que lástima, me encantaria vivir alli. hartándome de manzanas.gracias.

    • I would like to be able to eat every apple on our tree, but it is not possible! They are so delicious. We have been sharing them with our neighbors, but too many still fall to the ground. The worms and birds eat them too, so all is not lost!
